Overview

At this time the overview only covers eight inch figures. As this site includes more information about other Star Trek Mego Toys, I will have more information. Rick at NewForce is largely responsible for the content of this page. Thanks, Rick for all your information.

Facts, Fallicies, and Rumors - 8 inch figures

Other Package Ratios

There are reports of other packaging ratios that were, perhaps, specific to individual store chains. These were probably only repackaged by the store chains and not from Mego. This, perhaps, explains unusual package ratios that I have heard of from other collectors and dealers.

Fourth Series

There are pictures of the prototypes (of which I'll try to get copies) of a Fourth Series which was to include Sulu, Chekov, Harry Mudd, and (this one's a rumor) Nurse Chapel.

Body Types

The First Series had different type joints than all the later figures. (I'll explain the difference at a later date.)

Rarity

There are all kinds rumors as to which of the Crew is the rarest, but it's obvious from the packing ratios that fewer Uhura's were made.

In total numbers the Gorn, Neptunian, Keeper, and Cheron on Series Three card are the rarest.

However, if you look at each figure not considering the card, the Third Series is the most rare.

It is the general consensus that the Andorian and Romulan were the most popular of the Third Series Aliens. So they were bought up, played with, and in many cases destroyed. That is why they are so rare.

There is a rumor about a Mego fire which destroyed many of the Series Three figures. This is FALSE. It is also not true that the Third Series was only available in Europe. (Although some of the ST:TMP figures were only available in Italy.)

There have been a least one (I have heard rumors of another) warehouse find of Kirk, Spock, and the Klingon. This has caused the price of these three to remain somewhat constant while the others have continued to increase.

Assortment/Stock Numbers

Mego made Assortment/Stock numbers very easy. The Stock Number is the same as the Assortment Number unless there are different products within an assortment. In this case they added '/#' to differentiate the different products. See all the Assortment Numbers/Stock Numbers.

Repairing

I am not an authority on repair; so I'll refer you to people who are. First the
Mego Museum has a great page on repair.

And try Dr Mego which has great reproduction parts for sale. Also see a technique for handling Mego Disease.
